What is the made-to-measure dress shirts?

The term “made to measure” can be confusing because it is used to describe very different custom fit systems that produce wide ranges in fit quality.

Made-to-measure garments always involve some form of standardization in the patterning and manufacturing processes. It isn't as truly unique as a bespoke garment. So, according to some information, made to measure garments will be “inferior to that of a bespoke or ‘custom made’ garment.

With made to measure, the shirt will be made individually for the customer but with a pre-existing pattern, which is changed to fit. Various components and design elements can be mixed. For example, you have a large torso but a small neck, you can choose to put a 15” collar onto the body of a size 16”.

You will be provided with different collar shapes and other details to choose from. That means you can choose cutaways or button-downs which can be combined with stock cuff styles such as a three-button barrel or double style to be worn with cufflinks if you like that

How to determine Your body Size for Dress Shirt

- Measure your neck circumference

Place the measuring tape around the neck at the height where the collar would normally rest. Add one-half inch to this measurement, so the collar of your new shirt is not too snug. Stand relaxed. Do not crane your neck out or squeeze your chin down. The tape should be resting lightly on the skin, not squeezing it.

- Round your neck measurement up

You should round up the neck measurement to the nearest whole or half size to be comfortable. For example, a neck measurement of 18.3 inches would round up to 18.5 inches. You need not get an exact fit in this case.

- Take your full sleeve-length measurement

Place one end of the measuring tape at the base of the center of the back of the neck. Run the measuring tape over your shoulder, and let it hang down to your hand. Measure to the center of the meaty part of your palm. Add one inch to the sleeve-length measurement and round up to the nearest even number. Let's be easy, you need to have a friend help to take your arm measurements.

- Measure your waist

This is only required if you are purchasing a shirt with waist measurements on the tag. This is slightly different from the waist measurement you use when you buy pants, so you bring the tape around the fullest part of the belly. It’s important to stand in a relaxed, normal position. The measuring tape should be snug on the skin, but not squeezing in.  Add one-half inch to the number.

- Determine the body fit

If you are muscular men, dress shirts need to have an athletic cut that is narrower around the waist but allows for more room in the shoulders, chest, and arms. A slim fit will fit close to the body, which is good for lean men. With heavier men, full-cut shirts give you a lot of room in the body.
